Heart Beat

Driving down the highway Maria Deluca didn’t have a care in the world. The radio blasting out:
"You give me fever When you kiss me, fever when you hold me tight Fever, in the morning Fever all through the night" Singing alone with the music, Maria had never felt better in her whole life. Two days ago the love of her life popped the big "Question" and she of course said "Yes!". She wasn’t crazy enough to say "No", she’d been waiting along time. A real long time like about four years, she had begun to think she’d die an old maid!. But Michael Gurien a.k.a. Love of Her Life, surprised her yet again by coming over to her house when she was at work. To place a dozen bouquets of her favorite flowers all over her bedroom, lighten up her special candles and waiting for her to come home.
When she got home she was so tried she didn’t even bother to take a shower but just head straight to her bed. She stopped short when she saw what lay before her, she thought she must have falling a sleep without remembering hitting the bed. Michael walked up to her , picked her up and placed her in a sitting position at the edge of her bed. Kneeled down and front of her and processed with this speech:
Maria I don’t know what I’d do without and I never want to find out. I know I’m not the greatest boyfriend in the universe but I do know that I lo...ve you { At this point Michael begin to cry but he’ll never admit it! } You are the air that I breathe, you the sun in my world, you’re the heart that beats inside me. What I’m trying to say is will you do me the honor of spending the rest of your life with me?
With a speech like that how could she say no!. The next day they told anyone and everyone that they were getting married. All were happy, some wondered what took them so long. You see all their close friends had been married already and one of them was expecting. Well a day later Maria had decide she wanted to get Michael something really special. So she went out of town to the nearest town a couple of miles away to get a ring made. She was on her way back to her home town, planning to give the gift to Michael at their weekly dinner meal with their friends at the local diner the Crashdown.
" I light up when you call my name and I know you going a feel the same, you give me fever"
Still singing and happy as ever Maria wasn’t paying much attention to the swerving vehicle about to pass her by on the other side of the road. Instead of passing her the driver who had had a lot to drink slammed right into Maria’s car. Sending Maria who didn’t have her seat belt on { Maria normally wears one but today her head was somewhere else } flying out her front window and straight into a near by tree. The driver was killed on impact. And Maria lay dying with no one to help her. As consciousness faded from her , her last thought was "Michael I need you!".
"Hey Michael where is your better half?" His pal Kyle asked. "I don’t know but knowing Maria she’s going to be late!" Michael replied with a laugh. "So how things going Kyle, with Tess { Kyle’s wife }, is she still going though those crazy fits of rage?". "Yeah but they have been calming down. I’m not getting hurt as often but I’ll be happier when our sons
They were having twins } are born!". Kyle said with a shiver as he remembered the last fit his wife was in. When she almost toasted his "jewels" off with a hot iron.
She must have gone unconsciousness again because this time she could have sworn she could hear Michael calling out her name. Just in case this was real, she tried to yell out "Over here Michael" but her voice was but a whisper. Somehow Michael heard her and came rushing over to her side. "Maria, thank God I found you, I don’t know what I’d have done if I didn’t".
"Michael you found me". "Yes, I wouldn’t let you die". "No Michael, you don’t understand. I CAN die now". "Don’t talk like that, I’m here now and I’m taking you to a hospital". "No, I have to go, God only let me stay long enough to say good-bye and I love you". "Maria STOP IT !" Michael said but some how that "Feeling" came over him again telling him this time what she was saying was true.
Michael picked up Maria’s hand and placed it on his heart , he then did the same with his hand. "I Michael Gurien take thee Maria DeLuca as my wife , to have and to hold in sickness and in death. As more tears rolled downed Maria’s face, she smiled then said " I Maria DeLuca take thee Michael Gurien as my husband, to have an to hold in sickness and in health till death do us part". "No, and in death" Michael corrected. "And in Death" Maria compiled. "I Michael Gurien make this added vow that our hearts will be joined together forever, so that when one of our hearts stop beating so will the others". "Michael you shouldn’t say that, you have so much to live for". "Maria , if the very essence of my soul is gone I’m already dead. I won’t live without you".
Trying to catch her fading breath Maria said to him "Please just hold me, I’m feeling so cold". As Michael laid himself on the cold damp ground beside Maria’s almost lifeless body. He heard her heartbeat slowly, then his own join in with hers. To beat as one until they both slowly faded away to silence.
Side by side they lived their live and now side by side they died. That’s what the minister said to their teary eyed family and friends at their joint funeral. Everyone was so shocked to hear that they were both found dead on the side of the road not to far out from town. It would seem so was said that Maria had been in a car accident, while Michael had died of a broken heart.
With all the crying going on, no one seemed to noticed the change in the air as two souls went about placing kisses on all their loved ones. Then turned to each other and walked up to heaven hand in hand.
"Our hearts will be joined together forever!"

Michael just laughed at his poor friend’s misery, when the ultimate feeling of pain, loss and despair seized his chest. "Michael what’s the matter, you look like you just lost you best friend!" Asked Tess. "Or maybe the love of my life!" Michael replied as he jumped to his feet and ran pasted his worried looking friends. Michael didn’t know where he was running to but he had to move where his heart was leading him. Michael just kept running till his heart seemed to beg him to stop. But he wouldn’t, he knew something was wrong and it had to do you Maria.
Blinking her eyes open, Maria knew this would be the last time she’d see the night skies. She began to cry. Thinking to herself, "Why now, why me?. I have so much to live for. I finally have Michael. A great job that I’m really good at. I new apartment that my mother agreed to cosign on. I CAN'T DIE NOW!!!!!!!!! NOT LIKE THIS!. I can’t even move, GOD CAN YOU HEAR ME? I DON'T WANT TO DIE! .{ Crying harder now } please God, let me live.She must have gone unconsciousness again because this time she could have sworn she could hear Michael calling out her name.
